First the good stuff. As we said, every Cool Focus applet that can link somewhere supports the Scripted Links feature. You'll find a page in the documentation for each applet explaining how to 'talk JavaScript', but it's very easy - we basically explained it in a single paragraph on the previous page!
Now four small pieces of bad news...
- If an applet is unregistered, the Scripted Links feature won't work, other than when it's running on your local system for evaluation and site design.
- This feature won't work in Internet Explorer versions earlier than 4.0. Microsoft's JavaScript support used to be as bad as Netscape's support for Java. Really.
- In Netscape, the same applet can't talk JavaScript and talk to a Cool Focus Satellite.
- A very small piece of bad news is that Netscape v4.60 does not support this feature, and JavaScript calls from applets are ignored in this version of the once-respected browser. They did manage to get it working again in v4.61.
